Research Projects

Computer-based diabetic retinopathy screening for underserved populations in Texas (In progress)

  • Designed efficient, accurate pattern recognition algorithms to capture diabetic retinopathy (e.g., microaneurysm, hard exudates, and hemorrhages) in retinal images
  • Designed algorithm for the special needs of large scale screening (5000 images/day).
  • Implemented the algorithm with VS.NET C#.
  • Sponsored by the Public Health Department of Texas State

Semi-automated laser scar detection

  • Developed algorithms to detect laser surgery scars using before-after comparison analysis in retinal images.
  • Registered, analyzed and compared retinal images of the same person taken at different time.
  • The software was implemented with VS.NET C# and has been deployed for field test.
  • Sponsored by US Air Force surgeon general office.

Retinal Vessel Detection System

  • Developed a novel vessel detection algorithm for vascular networks mapping in retinal images.
  • Implemented the algorithm with VS.NET C# and evaluated its performance.
  • Sponsored by US Air Force.

Secure web server design

  • Analyzed the mechanism of the original administration tool set for the highly secure Brick Server? platform.
  • Translated the tool set from Delphi to VS.NET C#.
